Christmas Movie Guide

Not sure which Christmas movie is worth watching? With a sea of holiday movies available and Hallmark delivering one per day during the season, it can be hard to decide what to watch. This is your guide to help you navigate through the pine forest straight to that Christmassy feeling.

This blog is not about the Classics; A Muppet’s Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life, Polar Express, Love Actually, to name a few. We have spent the last few years adoring the lower budget Christmas movies and here’s why.

Just before Christmas 2013, we were in the process of moving countries, we had shipped most of our belongings and we had a mattress and a TV in our living room. We had cancelled our TV subscriptions and were left with the National stations only. This lead to a different type of Christmas movie viewing than we were used to. The budget was obviously significantly lower, the actors were ‘those people from that episode of Law and Order’ and the storylines were thin. However, what we did find was plenty of that joyous pure happiness that Christmas brings each year!

We affectionately refer to these movies as ‘Crappy Christmas Movies’ but 50% of the time they are far from crap.

When we admit our weird Christmas build-up obsession to our friends and family, they understandably think we’re a bit odd as we explain passionately about how terrible/cheesy/heart-warming these movies are. However the real reason people don’t watch these movies is because they simply don’t know which one is good and which one is going to make you vomit your eggnog. So we’re here, sharing our passion with you to help you navigate the risky world of Crappy Christmas movie watching.
